Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has named a strong squad for his first game in charge, which is a pre-season friendly at Championship side Wigan Athletic this weekend.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund for 26million, and £30million centre back Eric Bailly will both be in attendance at the DW Stadium.
The former Chelsea manager has also included the likes of Juan Mata, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Michael Carrick in his matchday squad. In addition to that, some younger talent at the Premier League giants could also get an opportunity to shine. Former Wigan star Antonio Valencia has also been named in the travelling party.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will play no part after Mourinho didn’t name him in their squad. He has been given extra time to rest after playing for Sweden at Euro 2016 this summer.
Earlier this week Wigan took part in their first pre-season game, which was a 0-0 draw against Chester. Caldwell will again use the Man Utd game to hand more match time to other members of his squad. That will include Ryan Taylor, who is back training with the club. New signings Alex Gilbey and Dan Burn should also play some part.
