Leeds United one of 10 clubs interested in Man United youngster

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United and nine other clubs have been in contact with Manchester United about the signing of young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The 23 year old shot stopper is expected to start in goal for Manchester United in their upcoming friendly with Wigan Athletic, but with David De Gea and Sergio Romero the two first choice keepers, Johnstone is expected to leave the club.

Leeds United are joined by Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and a selection of other Championship clubs in their interest for the goalkeeper.

Leeds have already signed former England international Rob Green this summer, but Garry Monk is rumoured to be looking to add further strength in the goalkeeping department.

Johnstone comes from a footballing family. His father was a goalkeeper for Preston North End in the early 1990s.

Johnstone himself as spent time at Preston, with two separate loan spells at Deepdale.

Although he is yet to make a first team competitive appearance for United in his time at the club, he’s gained experience on loan at several Football League clubs.

He’s spent time at Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers.

The 23 year old has also appeared an impressive 32 times at youth level for England, across four different age groups.
