Peterborough United’s Lee Angol is set to miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery on his leg according to a report from BBC Sport.
The 21-year-old striker had a great first season with the Posh after moving there from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee, scoring 11 goals in 38 appearances.
He had hoped he would be able to continue that momentum into the coming season but he will have to miss the start of it all after he was forced to undergo surgery on his leg after he fractured it. The process involved putting a pin in his leg to try and help with the recovery.
While it is unknown how long Angol will be out for, it is set to be a lengthy period on the sidelines due to the nature of the injury. The BUPA website states that it could take several months for a person to fully recover from this sort of surgery, though this depends on what bone they broke.
While devastating for Angol, this injury will give chances to other players in their squad to stake their claim for a regular first team spot. Currently the other strikers on the books are Joe Gormley, Tom Nichols and Shaquile Coulthirst and all will hope to impress and fill in for Angol while he’s out.
Following the reveal of the news, Peterborough’s head coach Grant McCann said: “I was looking forward to seeing him this year. He’s grown in height and got more physically strong,”
“I’m devastated for him. I visited him in hospital and he was devastated. But these things happen in football.”
“I’m sure it will not be the only injury he’ll get in his career and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger from it.”
