Oldham Athletic sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper

Oldham Athletic have signed Chris Kettings from Crystal Palace on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The Latics are keen to make sure they have a good replacement for Joel Coleman who completed a move to Huddersfield Town earlier in the summer and while they’ve already signed Connor Ripley on loan from Middlesbrough for the season, they have now got extra competition after Kettings signed a one year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper signed for Palace back in 2014 after coming through the Blackpool academy and it was hoped he would be able to challenge for the number one shirt quickly after signing. However he never really progressed like the coaches expected and spent most of last season on loan with Vanarama National side Bromley before being released in the summer.

But despite that disappointing move his performances at Bromley were noticed and now he will be battling with Ripley for the number one shirt at Boundary Park so he can help the Lancashire club advance up the table. He certainly has the pedigree to do so having been capped by the Scotland youth side on a number of occasions.

Kettings becomes the sixth signing after Ripley, Luke Woodland, Josh law, Lee Erwin and Jamie Rekord also moved to the club this summer.
