Pre-Season Report: Sheff Utd begin with routine victory

League One promotion favourites Sheffield United got their 2016/17 pre-season schedule underway with a 5-0 victory against Stocksbridge Park Steels. Chris Wilder achieved victory in his first match against the opponents from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division.

Former Northampton boss Wilder utilised a total of 22 players during the exercise. Braces from Marc McNulty and Matt Done, plus a solitary strike from Che Adams saw them come away with a routine result.

The goals can be seen in the video at the bottom of the page. The Blades powered into a 4-0 lead before half time, with ex-Portsmouth loanee McNulty and former Rochdale star Done netting both their goals in a one-sided first half. The flurry of changes at the break certainly had an effect in terms of goals compared to the opening 45 minutes, but it was still largely a dominant display from the visitors.

A crowd of 1,665 packed into Bracken Moor to see the Wilder era commence. Two different elevens were fielded, with the new manager keen on seeing as many different players in action as possible.

Next up, the Blades will travel to Spain for a training camp, where they will play a Murcia Regional Representative Squad on Thursday.

Sheff Utd first half team: Ramsdale, Brayford, Hussey, O’Connell, Shaughessy (trialist), Reed, Whiteman, J.Wallace, Calvert-Lewin, Done, McNulty.

Sheff Utd second half team: Eastwood, Freeman, K.Wallace, Wilson, Semple, Brooks, Scougall, Basham, Duffy, Adams, Sharp.
