Derby County flop returns to Spain on permanent move

Derby County’s Raul Albentosa has left the club and return to Spain after Deportivo la Coruna signed him for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.

The 27-year-old defender signed for the Rams in January 2015 from Eibar when Steve McClaren was the head coach but he failed to break into the first team and only made nine appearances in the second half of that season.

With defender looking even more unlikely to break into the first team after the appointment of Paul Clement, he was loaned back to Malaga for the season last season and while he did play more regularly for them and even scored an equaliser against Real Madrid, the Spanish team didn’t take up the option to sign him permanently.

But Albentosa’s ill fated time in Derby has now ended after he completed a move to Deportivo. With the defender being seen as a complete flop of the signing, it actually worked out quite well for the East Midlands club as reports are suggesting that they’ve actually made a profit on the player from when they signed him back at the start of 2015.

Now Albentosa will hope to move on from this part of his career and concentrate on helping Deportivo in La Liga.
