Chesterfield sign Liverpool goalkeeper on loan

Chesterfield have signed Ryan Fulton from Liverpool on a season long loan as confirmed by the club website.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper made his professional debut last season when he joined up with former Chesterfield manager Paul Cook at Portsmouth and made 12 appearances  for them as they made a run to the play offs before being beaten by Plymouth Argyle in the semi finals.

Now though Fulton, who is a youth international for Scotland, will get a chance to test himself in League 1 now that he will be at the Proact Stadium for the season.

The Spireites needed a new goalkeeper as well as before the signing of Fulton they were seriously lacking in the area. Their reserve keeper Aaron Chapman elected to leave the club this summer in order to join Accrington Stanley so he could have a better chance of paying more regularly. This seemed OK but then news came out that their number one Tommy Lee would have to undergo shoulder surgery which would keep him out of first team action for the beginning of the season.

But now Chesterfield don’t have to worry after they beat several other teams to the signing Fulton who will get to stake his claim to be their regular number one in the early part of the season.
