Leeds United’s move for Belgian winger stalls

Leeds United’s attempt to sign NEC Nijmegen’s Anthony Limbombe has stalled according to a report from Dutch publication Voetbal International.

The 21-year-old winger looked set to begin talks with the West Yorkshire club in the coming days after a £1m fee was agreed with NEC, but that all relied upon them signing a replacement for Limbombe.

The man that NEC had lined up was Genk winger Ayub Masika who was expected to sign for NEC in the coming days. However he has turned down the Dutch club and instead decided to stay in Belgium to sign for second tier club Lierse SK.

This means that NEC are ready to call off the deal to sell Limbombe unless they can get another winger to sign for the club meaning that Leeds may not be able to sign the Belgian U19 international as quickly as they expected.

While this deal may not go through, Leeds have already been busy in this transfer window as they aim to finally make a push for promotion under new manager Garry Monk. They have already signed six players including Kemar Roofe, Marcus Antonsson, Robert Green, Matt Grimes, Hadi Sacko and Kyle Bartley and will be hoping to make before the season begins at the start of August.
