Dortmund centre back re-joins Wagner at Huddersfield

Borussia Dortmund centre back Jon Gorenc Stankovic has signed a four-year contract with Championship side Huddersfield Town. He makes the move from the Bundesliga giants for an undisclosed fee.

He reunites himself with David Wagner, whom he worked with during their time in Germany. The 21-year-old is a Slovenian Under-21 international. He never made a first-team appearance with Dortmund, although he has been called up to the bench before.

He was recently called up to the full Slovenian national team. At 6ft 3″, Wagner feels he is the perfect build for the Sky Bet Championship. He anticipates he’ll have a big impact at the football club,

“Having worked with Jon, I know he is an outstanding young talent and it is not normal that we’d get the opportunity to bring him here. When we did, it is great that we could move so quickly to complete the transfer.
“Jon will come in and work with the First Team group, but he will be given time to develop further.
“He has the height of a centre back and his physical side will continue to develop; he is only 20 years old. He is already very comfortable in possession of the ball and knows our style of play very well; this will suit his style.
“I am excited about having Jon as part of our squad, both this season and over the next few years.”

He was a regular member of the Borussia Dortmund II side. He regularly played for the Under-23 side under the stewardship of Wagner.
