QPR set sights on Bundesliga winger

Queens Park Rangers have taken a firm interest in FC Ingolstadt and Australian international winger Mathew Leckie, according to West London Sport.

The 25-year-old could well be a direct replacement for newly departed winger Matt Phillips, who left Loftus Road to join Premier League outfit West Brom on Wednesday.

Starting his professional career with Adelaide United, Leckie made the switch to Germany and Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2011, however made only nine appearances in two years with the club.

Leckie played an integral role in FC Ingolstadt’s impressive surge to 11th place in their debut Bundesliga season, making 32 appearances whilst netting three goals.

Equally, Leckie has shone on the international stage, featuring heavily in Australia’s 2014 World Cup campaign, which ultimately saw The Socceroos eliminated in the group stages.

However, despite having plied his trade in Germany for the previous five seasons, it appears as if Leckie could be making the switch to Loftus Road this summer.

Whilst The Hoops wait for word on whether winger Junior Hoilett will accept a new contract offer, signing Leckie would sufficiently bolster QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s attacking arsenal.

A relatively disappointing 2015/16 Championship campaign saw QPR secure a mid-table finish, and Hasselbaink in his first full season of management with QPR will be desperate to guide the West London side to a top-six finish.
