All you need to know about Leeds target Yannis Salibur

Earlier this week, in an article which can be read here, the72 reported that Leeds United had made an offer for French winger Yannis Salibur.

Despite reports in French publication L’equipe stating that Salibur had no interest in signing for a club from the second tier of English football, it was today reported that a definitive bid had been made.

Leeds United fans reacted on Twitter to the news of a rumoured bid, but just how much do they know about the man Gary Monk is trying to bring to Elland Road?

Yannis Salibur was born in Saint-Denis, a Northern suburb in the French capital.

He began his youth career at Red Star Paris, a club which had seen the likes of Alex Song and Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko make their name.

He moved on to Lille, where he attracted interest from Italian sides Roma, Udinese and Torino.

Despite this interest, he signed his first professional contract with Lille in 2008.

He made his first team debut at the club a day before his 18th birthday.

Salibur left Lille in 2011, and spent four years in Ligue 2 with Boulogne and Clermont Foot.

In 2015, he signed for Ligue 1 side Guingamp, where he became a regular in the first team.

He has scored 18 goals in his professional career.

Although he’s never represented France at senior level, he has played for his country at U17, U18 and U19. In 2008, he was part of the U17 French side who finished runners up at the European U18 Championship.

Yannis Salibur is a versatile midfielder who prefers playing on the left wing. He is only 5ft10, but has electric pace and power which causes defences in Ligue 1 trouble on a weekly basis.

Salibur isn’t the only Frenchman that Leeds have been linked with this week.

Sporting Lisbon’s Hadi Sacko was pictured with the Leeds United squad on their pre-season tour of Ireland, and is expected to join the club on loan.

You can see how the fans reacted to the Sacko rumours here.
