Celtic chase Reading and Wales star

Celtic are chasing Wales star Chris Gunter in a £1m deal, according to the Scotsman (via the Daily Mail).

The Reading right back has played in every game of Wales extraordinary run to the semi finals of Euro 2016 and it is now believed that Scottish champions Celtic are ready to make their move.

It is reported that Celtic will trigger a £1m release clause in the 26 year olds contract. He currently has one year left on his Reading deal.

The versatile defender can operate at right back or left back and had spells at Cardiff, Spurs and Nottingham Forest before signing for The Royals in 2012.

Since signing for Reading, he has made over 140 appearances for the club and already has over 70 caps for Wales.

Reading have already lost one Wales star this summer, after Hal Robson-Kanu’s contract  at the club expired and he wasn’t offered a new deal.

The versatile forward has now been linked to a number of clubs including Premier League Champions Leicester City.

Gunter would likely be a huge loss for Reading due to his consistent performances for the club, but it may prove difficult to turn down a fee of £1m for a player entering the final year of his contract.
