Pompey sign former Accrington Stanley defender

Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Accrington Stanley defender Tom Davies according to The Portsmouth News.

The 24 year old Warrington born defender has signed a two year deal at Fratton Park after his contract at The Crown Ground expired.

The player had been expected to sign on the dotted line for Pompey for a number of days after joining the club at the beginning of pre-season training at the start of the week.

After being released by Blackburn Rovers as a youngster, Davies dropped into non league football with Team Northumbria and FC United of Manchester before being picked up by Fleetwood Town in March 2014.

The defender failed to make an appearance for The Cod Army and spent time on loan at National League clubs Alfreton Town, Lincoln City and Southport before joining Accrington Stanley upon his release by Fleetwood Town last summer.

Davies became an important member of a Stanley squad which exceeded expectations to reach the League 2 Play Offs last season with the player making 39 appearances for the club scoring one goal.

The defender is the latest of seven new arrivals at Fratton Park after the previous signings of Matt Clarke, Drew Talbot, Danny Rose, Carl Baker, Michael Smith and Milan Lalkovic.
