Jordan Flores has signed a new one year contract with Wigan Athletic according to a report from the club website.
The 20-year-old midfielder came through the club’s academy and ended up being one of the few players who actually benefited from their nosedive down the leagues after making his debut earlier this season. While he only ended up making eight appearances in his debut season, he has shown enough to the coaching staff to earn himself a one year deal which will keep him at the DW Stadium until 2017.
He caught the attention of fans and other teams alike when he scored a spectacular goal against Fleetwood Town which ended up being voted as the goal of the season by the fans. With that being his first ever professional goals, the fans are now excited to see what else he can do when he gets more experience.
After Flores signed the new contract, Wigan manager Gary Caldwell said: “On the ball his quality is undoubted, he’s a fantastic technical footballer and he worked extremely hard on his fitness last season to get into the team.”
“He has to continue to work on his fitness for the new season, it’s a massive part of football now especially in midfield.”
“He earned himself some great moments, the goal against Fleetwood being the obvious highlight and he had some difficult times throughout the season too with the red card against Oldham and the injuries he suffered, but as a young player you’re always going to get that and he has to learn.”
