Leeds United: Bianchi signs on in Italy deal

Tommaso Bianchi was one of the first wave of Italian imported players that joined Leeds United on Massimo Cellino taking over the club. Now, according to Phil Hay (below) he has signed for Italian side Ascoli.

Bianchi originally joined Leeds United from Sassuolo in 2014, ahead of the 2014/15 Championship campaign – signing a four-year contract with the Whites. His move back to Italy comes as he is half-way through his original contract.

After a run of games in the first team for Leeds in his debut season, during which he showed flashes of competency as a sitting midfielder, he fell out of favour somewhat before suffering a season-ending injury after making 24 starts for United.

This injury healed but the Italian midfielder then suffered a separate injury during the 2015/16 preseason warm-up games. With it becoming more obvious that he didn’t fit into Leeds’ plans, a move with an option to sign saw Bianchi move to Ascoli during the January window.

His first game for his new club saw the now former-Leeds man receive a red card. However, he went on to make 16 appearances for Ascoli and was instrumental in helping the Serie B side stave off the threat of relgation.

Bianchi is expected to sign a three-year deal with Ascoli, this being confirmed in a Yorkshire Evening Post article. In the article, the YEP say that a spokeperson from the Italian side said: “Ascoli Picchio has exercised the right of redemption and the player will remain with us outright.”
