Bundesliga fans start petition to sign popular Championship striker

Fans of Bundesliga side Hamburg have started a petition for their club to sign Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg. At the time of writing, the petition reached just under 6,000 signatures.

He became one of the stars of this summers Euro 2016 tournament, despite not playing a single minute for Northern Ireland. This led to Grigg explaining his frustration at not appearing in France.

Northern Ireland fans were constantly singing the ‘Will Grigg’s on fire’ chant throughout the tournament. That applied both in the ground and outside as well! This led to fans of other nations gathering appreciation for the tune. Especially those in Germany.

In the description on the petition, the Hamburg supporters suggest that Grigg could be signed for 1.5million euros. He would also ‘probably generate several times the fee in merchandise’.

The 24-year-old was a big success with his club Wigan last season. They won the League One title thanks to him contributing 25 goals. The season before, he scored 20 goals in MK Dons’ League One promotion campaign.

Gary Caldwell certainly won’t be keen to lose his star man, especially given the merchandise fees he could generate! Only joking. But seriously, he knows where the back of the net is. Although fans have grown to love him, he is needed back here at the DW Stadium. Still, let the song continue to echo across terraces across Europe.
