Villa, Birmingham and more hope to loan Premier League striker

According to the Daily Star, Aston Villa and Birmingham City have joined the race to sign Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan. He spent time out at Brighton last season, and Jose Mourinho wants him to leave temporarily once again.

The two Birmingham clubs are not alone in wanting to sign Wilson. They face competition from three Premier League sides. Promoted trio Hull City, Middlesbrough and Burnley are all in the mix as well.

The fact that Mourinho has a close relationship with Villa assistant Steve Clarke could give them the edge. However he is just as friendly with Boro boss Aitor Karanka as well.

United don’t believe the player will enjoy too many first-team opportunities at Old Trafford next season. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to sign, Wilson will nudge a place down the pecking order.

Wilson is said to have been frustrated by the lack of game-time when Dutchman Louis van Gaal was in charge of the Red Devils. Chris Hughton snapped him up and he played a big role in their promotion bid. He scored five goals for the Seagulls. So far, he has helped himself to four goals in the Manchester United first-team. It remains to be seen when he will get the opportunity to add to that figure.
