Reading rival Italian club for ex-Leeds striker

Reading have made a ‘substantial’ offer to sign former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci (GianlucaDiMarzio.com). Italy Serie B side Cesena have also made him their number one summer transfer target.

Dutchman Jaap Stam is hoping to bolster his Royals squad ahead of the new season. He clearly believes Antenucci would be an asset. The fact he has experience at this level is an obvious advantage.

It is no forgone conclusion that he will return to his native Italy. The 31-year-old is said to be mulling over the offer to sign the former Torino and Catania frontman.

He was released from Leeds United this summer after scoring 19 goals for the club in two seasons. Last season he amassed nine goals for the Whites, including a brace in the March home win over Bolton Wanderers.

Massimo Drago is hoping to add him to their Cesena squad. They reached the Serie B Play-Offs last season, but failed to achieve promotion. He faces a race with Stam, who is starting to stamp his own authority on his Madejski Stadium squad.

Speculation was rife at Elland Road about the strikers’ future before it was announced he would be leaving. It was actually via his own Instagram that he revealed he would be departing the club. Focus is now on the future for Antenucci, but will it be at Reading, Cesena or elsewhere?
