Bluebirds set to loan defender to Gills for a third time

Cardiff City defender Deji Oshilaja is set to join League 1 promotion hopefuls Gillingham for a third time according to Kent Online.

The Bermondsey born defender enjoyed two loan spells at Priestfield Stadium last season and is now set to return to the Kent club for a third spell.

Oshilaja initially joined Gillingham on a six month loan deal last July and made 15 appearances for the club scoring three goals. The player returned to parent club Cardiff City in January but was permitted to return to Kent for a second loan spell in March and  Oshilaja added a further 10 appearances to his tally for The Gills.

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh has become a huge fan of the popular defender and is currently in talks with Cardiff City to arrange another loan spell for the player with the view to a deal being completed within the next few days.

Oshilaja is out of favour at The Cardiff City Stadium with the 23 year old defender having made just three appearances for The Bluebirds to date. The player is a product of The Bluebirds’ academy set up but has found chances hard to come by since graduating to the senior squad in 2012.

It is understood that Gillingham will try to negotiate a season long loan for the defender as the club plot a long awaited return to the Championship come May.
