Leeds unwilling to pay £1million fee for Scottish forward

The Dundee Evening Telegraph understands that Leeds United are not prepared to meet the asking price for Dundee forward Greg Stewart. The Scottish Premiership side are demanding £1million for the 26-year-old.

Several clubs are said to be lining up in terms of declaring interest, but agreeing a fee could be an issue. Stewart scored eleven goals last season and only has a year remaining on his current contract.

A number of clubs are said to be remain interested in the player. Leeds were very much at the head of that category, but they look set to be priced out. They are also interested in Oxford United forward Kemar Roofe. However paying £3million isn’t something they are prepared to do.

Dundee managing director has previously stated that the club would rather lose Stewart for free next summer, rather than for a fee now. He is certainly a key member of Paul Hartley’s squad.

The former Cowdenbeath man officially joined the club in June 2014, after signing a pre-contract agreement. Aberdeen, Rangers and Hearts are three Scottish-based club that are monitoring the situation. Stewart has rejected a new contract with the club, so is likely to leave either this summer or next.

Speculation has forever grown over the past year in the Scottish media that Stewart will move on to pastures new. Most Scottish clubs don’t have the financial stability to reject decent offers from some English clubs. He is certainly a player in demand, but where will he end up?
