Burton snap up towering defender

Burton Albion have completed the signing of Ben Turner on a free transfer.

The defender’s contract had run its course at Cardiff and he left the club after five years, playing 111 times.

Turner had been linked with his hometown club Birmingham City but those rumours have now been put to bed as he starts a new chapter with newly promoted Burton Albion.

Turner has had injury problems which have made some clubs a little wary but he is still a good Championship defender if he can find some fitness.

At just 28, Turner still has some good years ahead of him providing he can play regularly.

Burton are looking to add some Championship experience to their young squad and Turner adds that in abundance.

Turner played just six times last year and five of those games were in League One with Coventry, but Burton are clearly confident of him playing more than that this year.

The defender is a physical behemoth, standing at 6’4, and played 31 times in Cardiff City’s ultimately unsuccessful Premier League campaign, but never looked too far out of his depth.

Birmingham City will have to look elsewhere for a defensive addition to the squad, but there does not appear to be a large amount of rumours at the moment.
