Dundee defender moves to League One Chesterfield

Chesterfield have signed Paul McGinn from Dundee on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 25-year-old defender had been a regular for Dundee last season and made 39 appearances and scored one goal in the massive 5-0 win over Dumbarton. But he became a free agent at the end of his contract and has decided to have a go at football south of the border after he signed a two year contract with Chesterfield.

This is the first off season that Danny Wilson has taken charge of and he will be hoping to get the players in that could see them challenge for the play offs again and adding a new defender could be the thing the Spireites need to go that bit further. McGinn is the fourth signing of the summer with Kristian Dennis, Jon Nolan and Ched Evans already being signed up. The latter signing got a lot of controversy as he’s facing a retrial of the rape allegation that saw him convicted back in 2012.

Following the signing of McGinn, Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said,

“Paul’s arrival will greatly strengthen the level of competition for a place on the right-hand side of defence. He is very athletic and comes highly recommended.”
