League One goalkeeper’s move to Premier League delayed

Will Mannion’s proposed move from AFC Wimbledon to Hull City has been delayed, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

League One newcomers agreed a fee with the Tigers earlier this month but a move has still not been confirmed. It is said there are complications with compensation but Hull are still expected to seal the deal. A transfer tribunal may be needed.

The highly-rated 18 year-old Mannion has been the subject of interest from Stoke and Liverpool. However, it is Premier League newcomers Hull that are looking the most likely to secure his signature. The Tigers earned their top flight status after a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Play-Off final.

The young shot-stopper has never made a senior appearance for Wimbledon but impressed in their Youth Cup run last season, most notably in a game against Newcastle at St. James’s Park. Losing such a highly-rated goalkeeper will be a blow for the League One side.

Nevertheless, Dons boss Neal Ardley is already preparing for their League One campaign next season. Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos is signing that could follow after Mannion’s departure.

Will Mannion will be only the second Wimbledon player to leave for a Premier League side. Hull will be looking for further targets, potentially from the football league, to help them succeed in the top flight next season. They are still yet to sign anyone with the owner and manager Steve Bruce’s future still uncertain at this point.
