Wales Online reports that Cardiff City could potentially reignite their interest in Birmingham City midfielder Dave Cotterill. The 28-year-old is currently away with the Wales national team at Euro 2016.
It is understood there is a £1.1million release clause in his Blues contract. This has alerted several Championship clubs about making their move for the talented wide man.
This time last year, Cardiff were very much interesting to taking the Welsh to the Cardiff City Stadium. Instead he elected to extend his Birmingham contract.
Cotterill, who was born in Cardiff, is also attracting attention from Sheffield Wednesday and Reading.
The Bluebirds are now managed by Paul Trollope, who is also on the coaching staff with the Wales team. Previous manager Russell Slade was thought to be interested in signing Cotterill. He has since left to take the Charlton Athletic job. Therefore, it remains to be seen how much Cardiff are prepared to make their move for the player. Trollope will now be seeing first hand what sort of playing he could be signing.
There is the chance Cardiff could return to exploit this market. However, Sheff Wed, Reading and of course Birmingham may have something to say about that. The St Andrews club are in a slightly vulnerable situation in that there is a release clause.
