League One side Bury have confirmed their first signing of the summer. This comes in the form of ex-MK Dons centre back Antony Kay. The 33-year-old signs a two-year contract at Gigg Lane.
The experienced defender has well over 500 career appearances under his belt. Released by MK Dons this summer, he has also played for Barnsley, Tranmere Rovers and Huddersfield Town.
On three occasions he has won promotion out of League One. In 2015 he was part of the MK Dons side which finished as runners-up. Prior to this, he has got out of the division through the play-offs with Barnsley and Huddersfield.
Speaking on the news of his new signing, Bury boss David Flitcroft insists it is a relief to get this deal over the line,
“Antony is a player we have been pursuing for the last six months and I am absolutely delighted to reveal him as our first summer signing and have his signature on a contract for Bury FC.
“We have been working on securing his services since Christmas, he is a player of great character and has the leadership qualities required to reduce our goals conceded stats for next season.”
The Barnsley-born man becomes Flitcroft’s first of what he’ll be hoping is many new faces at the Greater Manchester Club. Last season, Bury finished in 14th place in the League One table.
