Close Jose Mourinho friend set for Port Vale job

Sky Sports understands that Bruno Ribeiro is set to be named the new Port Vale manager. The former Sheffield United and Leeds United midfielder has been favourite for the vacancy for some time.

Shefki Kuqi was also said to have been interviewed for the job. Nevertheless, chairman Norman Smurthwaite looks set to appoint the Portuguese to the role.

Vale have been on the lookout for a new manager since Rob Page left to take on the job at promoted side Northampton Town.

The 40-year-old is no stranger to English football from his time with Sheff Utd and Leeds between 1997 and 2001. He is also a close friend of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as well.

He spent the majority of his playing career with hometown club Vitoria Setubal. He has also managed that Primeira Liga club on two occasions as well. His most recent job was also in Portugal with Academico de Viseu. He has also held a managerial job with Bulgarian club Ludogorets.

Many will certainly be surprised at this move in the sense that he is a name very much out of the blue. The sense it isn’t a shock is that he has been linked to the role for some time now. Jose Morais, also a Portuguese friend of Jose Mourinho, was another name to be heavily linked.
