Bristol City are closing in on their third signing of the summer according to the Bristol Post. Midfielders Gary O’Neil and Josh Brownhill have already been recruiting by Robins boss Lee Johnson, and it is believed a third isn’t too far away.
Former Barnsley manager Johnson revealed that he believes many Championship clubs are chasing similar targets, however he believes they have an advantage over those clubs in their quest to bring in fresh faces.
He revealed that as the club don’t need to sell players in order to raise funds to bring in new bodies, they are able to do a lot of busy very early into the summer, which many rival sides not even signing anybody so far.
Johnson, son of Gary, the current Cheltenham Town and former Bristol City manager, says he is more than happy with where the club are at this moment in time in terms of transfers,
“One of our strengths this summer is that we do have the potential to swoop quickly.
“There are eight or nine clubs in the Championship who are all interested in the same players. But quite a lot of those are in a position where they have to get players out first.
“We can swoop early if we want to and that is our strength in this window.
“I like to keep my business under the radar and one way of doing that is to move quickly to get deals done before anything sneaks out.”
Johnson was keen to stress that whilst his side are linked with several players, he doesn’t want fans to be disappointed if those names don’t turn up at Ashton Gate, suggesting most of those links are from agents.
