Former Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore was tear gassed by French police during the trouble that followed the Euro 2016 match between England and Russia according to a report from the Nottingham Post.

Collymore, who has also played for Southend United and Liverpool, was at the game reporting for radio station Talksport which ended in bitter disappointment after Russia were able to get a late equaliser.

But it was the trouble after the game which hit the headlines when Russia fans charged towards England inside the Stade Velodrome in Marseille with the violence then falling out into the streets.

And the footballer turned broadcaster was out in the trouble when he used Periscope to start streaming some of the ugly scenes happened in France. He claimed that 300 local youths had chased down England fans and also said that French police were unwilling to do anything before uploading a selfie video where tears were streaming from his eyes from the tear gas.

He said: “A gang of 300 just ran up the street chasing England fans.”

“Local youths, just all local youths.”

“It’s getting quite scary now. There’s bottles and f****** all sorts.”

“There’s tear gas, tear gas canisters. And the police are throwing them towards me.”
