Blackburn challenge Ipswich for pacey free agent

Owen Coyle is hoping to complete his first signing as Blackburn Rovers manager, in the form of free agent Liam Feeney (The Sun, 12th May, Page 62). The winger, released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of the season, is also linked with Ipswich Town, where he ended last season on loan.

Nevertheless, Coyle is optimistic of beating Ipswich and rival manager Mick McCarthy to the sign of the pacey wide man, who did have a brief loan spell at Blackburn in 2014. He was allowed to leave Bolton originally on loan last season as he was one of the higher earning players at the club. When relegation was confirmed, he was free to leave completely.

He went on to make nine appearances for the Tractor Boys, scoring one goal in the process, that coming in the home defeat to Brentford. The video of which can be seen below.

Many felt it would therefore be almost inevitable that he would pen a permanent move to Portman Road, however Blackburn have since coming onto the scene now Coyle is back in football. He is said to be an admirer of the attacker and is hopeful of concluding a deal in the coming days.

Feeney made a name for himself in non-league football with Salisbury City, so much so it earned him a move to AFC Bournemouth. After over 100 appearances, he moved on to Millwall for £200,000. Loan spells at Bolton Wanderers and then Blackburn followed before a permanent switch to the Macron Stadium and then his stint at Ipswich at the end of last season.
