Nottingham Forest table £1million for in-demand European striker

Managerless Nottingham Forest have tabled a bid of around £1million for striker Apostolos Vellios according to the Nottingham Post. The 24-year-old, who has played for Premier League side Everton, currently plays in the Greek Super League with Iraklis.

A few months ago, Vellios was called up to the Greece national team for the first time after an impressive domestic season, where he scored 11 goals for Iraklis, who finished 12th in the 16-team top flight division.

Although Forest are the only club to official sanction a bid for the player, there is said to be significant interest in the forward from elsewhere. Reports suggest that the offer produced by the City Ground club is deemed acceptable by the Greek side.

Fellow Greek Super League side AEK Athens, as well as German Bundesliga team Mainz have also been linked with the player. There have also been tentative rumours linking the player with Greek giants Olympiakos.

The striker, who has been capped three times by Greece, looks highly likely to be leaving Iraklis this summer, but the question is who will he be joining.

He also had the briefest of loan spells with Blackpool during his time in English football, and also played for a season at Belgian side Lierse and a six-month loan with Danish club Vestsjaelland.
