Middlesbrough make approach for Norwich defender

Middlesbrough have made an approach for Norwich City’s Ryan Bennett according to a report from BBC Sport.

The 26-year-old defender was a regular for the Canaries last season after making 26 appearances for them. However he wasn’t able to stop Norwich from being relegated to the Championship and he could be one of many players set to leave the club as Alex Neil aims to rebuild the squad ahead of a promotion bid.

And Bennett may be about to make a swift return to the Premier League after this report suggested that Middlesbrough made an enquiry into how much Norwich would be willing to sell him for. While the Boro had one of the strongest defences in the Championship during their promotion bid last season, they are looking to get more options with experience of the Premier League to make sure their back line remains as tight as ever.

Middlesbrough aren’t the only club who are interested in signing Bennett. Their fellow promoted team Hull City could also sign the defender while Scottish champions Celtic are also interested in recruiting the former Peterborough United man.

Bennett came through the Ipswich Town academy before being released and ending up at Grimsby Town. After a successful spell there he moved to Peterborough and carried on building his reputation before making a move to Norwich.
