Bristol City close in on experienced midfielder

According to the Pink ‘Un, Gary O’Neil is on the verge of joining Bristol City from Norwich.

O’Neil is out of contract at the end of the month and has made 31 appearances for Norwich in two years, without scoring.

A deep lying midfielder with a good range of passing, O’Neil has forged a career in the Championship and Premier League and seems to be well-liked everywhere he has played.

He helped QPR to promotion in 2013/14, and then Norwich the year after, despite being sent off at Wembley as QPR won the Playoff final in 2014.

Reportedly, Norwich offered the player a new deal, but he chose not to accept it, despite breaking into the first team in midway through last year and winning over fans with a string of good performances at the top level of English football.

O’Neil would add some much needed experience to Bristol’s comparatively young midfield, and on a free, could be a real coup. He captained the side during periods of last season and Bristol City will be hoping he can display these leadership qualities in midfield for them.

The veteran midfielder is expected to be unveiled as a Bristol City player in the coming days.
