Notts County among many chasing former Aston Villa striker

Notts County are one of the many teams chasing Jordan Bowery according to a report from the Nottingham Post.

The 24-year-old striker is seen as a talented forward though that didn’t stop him from being released from Oxford United at the end of this season. Despite having a decent scoring rate after netting seven times in seventeen games, Oxford manager Michael Appleton deemed him surplus to requirements and decided to let him go.

That has led to a number of clubs chasing Bowery’s signature though the only known to us at this time is Notts County. The move would make sense as the new Magpies manager John Sheridan knows Bowery well from their time together at Chesterfield. It was Sheridan who brought the forward through and ranks and gave him the chance to impress which eventually earned him his big move to Aston Villa. A move for Bowery would add competition to an already potent attacking line that includes Jon Stead and Izale McLeod.

Bower started his youth career at Derby County but when he wasn’t signed on as a scholar he moved onto Chester. After coming through the ranks there he impressed and earned a big move to then Premier League side Aston Villa. However since then Bowery’s career nosedived as he was released after two years at Villa Park for failing to score a single goal. He also failed to impress during a spell at Rotherham United but was able to rebuild his reputation somewhat when at Oxford the last six months.
