Barnsley also have bid for Colchester midfielder rejected

Barnsley are the latest club to have a bid for Colchester United’s George Moncur rejected according to a report from the Yorkshire Post.

The 22-year-old midfielder came through the West Ham academy before a successful loan deal saw him land a permanent contract with Colchester and has appeared on a lot of club’s radars following their relegation to League 2.

And following the news that Charlton Athletic have had a bid rejected for Moncur, more reports have come out to suggest that Barnsley have also had a £400,000 bid rejected for him.

These reports have also said that Barnsley have begun talks with Moncur though after this rejection, it may take some time until they are able to finalise the deal.

The Tykes aren’t just facing Charlton as competition to sign Moncur with a number of League 1 clubs interested in signing the midfielder. Swindon Town, Peterborough United and MK Dons are all considering making moves for him and seem to watching how bids from Barnsley and Charlton go before they decide to make their move.

Barnsley do have an advantage in this race though which is their current league status. After beating Millwall 3-1 in the play off final they are now a Championship team whereas the teams they are battling with for Moncur’s signature are in League 1.
