Initial talks crumble for Italian club hoping to sign ex-Leeds striker

Sky Italia reports that Parma have failed to come to an agreement to sign former Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci, although they will recommence talks soon (Inside Futbol).

The Italian forward was released by the Championship club this summer after scoring 19 goals for the Elland Road side since joining in august 2014.

Although he has been in talks with the Italian side, who won promotion last season, there remains a very real possibility of Antenucci remaining in England for next season, specifically the Championship. Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic are all monitoring the situation.

Several Italian-based sides are all in on the act, in addition to Parma. Avellino, Hellas Verona, Pescara and Benevento have all expressed an interest in bringing the free agent to their respective clubs as well.

In the past, Antenucci had expressed an interest in remaining in the UK as his family is settled in the country. He will however speak with Parma representatives once again in the near future after original talks saw them fail to reach an agreement.

What is clear is that Antenucci is clearly a man in-demand, even if Leeds were not so keen on keeping him next season. Still, he appears to have plenty of offers on the table for him and his family to ponder over.

Prior to his Leeds United move, the 31-year-old played for clubs such as Torino, Ternana and Catania in his native Italy. He turns 32 in August, so he’ll know he won’t have many transfers left in his playing career, so will be determined to make the next move, the right move.
