Brentford set for £3 million windfall

Championship club Brentford will receive a windfall of around £3 million as a result of Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The Clarets lifted the Championship trophy last season as they secured an immediate return to the top flight and the Lancashire club must now pay Brentford a fee of approximately £3.5 million as a result of their success.

Burnley signed 25-goal striker Andre Gray from Brentford last August for a reported transfer fee of £6 million while defender James Tarkowski joined the former non league striker at Turf Moor in January after a £3 million deal was agreed between the two clubs.

It has been reported that both deals included additional bonuses to be paid to Brentford should Burnley achieve promotion to the Premier League and as a result of The Clarets’ promotion they must now pay The Bees additional sums of £2 million as part of the Andre Gray deal and £1.5 million as an add-on to the Tarkowski transfer.

Andre Gray joined Brentford from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee back in summer 2014 and it is understood that The Bees must pay The Hatters around £500,000 now that the striker is set to become a Premier League player next season.
