How League 1 Play Off Final Losers fared the next season

Just a few days ago we did an article where we showed how well play off final losers did to try and make Sheffield Wednesday fans feel a bit better.

So we decided that we would do the same for Millwall who will probably still be suffering the pain of losing to Barnsley last Sunday. But will you be back up there? We looked at previous League 1 play off final losers to find out.

Swindon Town 2014-15

Despite all the hard work to get there, Swindon were simply ripped apart by Preston North End at Wembley and eventually lost 4-0.

This was a pretty mediocre season for Swindon. They really struggled at the start of the year and ended up sacking Mark Cooper. His replacement Martin Ling improved the side before he resigned due to ill health. They did though end up finishing 17th under Luke Williams.

Leyton Orient 2013-14

This one will have stung a lot. Orient were leading 2-0 at one stage but Rotherham United pegged them back to 2-2 before beating them on penalties.

That pain continued throughout the following season too. They struggled throughout the season and that was mainly because of the managerial go around. After Russell Slade left to join Cardiff City, Kevin Nugent was put in charge. For a month that is until Mauro Milanese took up the reigns. He lasted a bit longer than Nugent, about a month and a half, and then Fabio Liverani took control to see Orient get relegated.
