Bristol City striker scores first international goal with wonder volley

On just his second start for the Ivory Coast, Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia has got off the mark, and in fine fashion too! In their friendly game, which they won 2-1, Cote D’Ivoire called upon one of last season’s Championship top scorers to lead their forward line.

26-year-old Kodjia was born in France but qualifies for the Ivory Coast through his father. He lined up alongside the likes of Gervinho, Max Gradel and Lamine Kone in the centralised friendly match.

It was the Bristol City man who opened the scoring early in the second half with a sweetly-struck volley when beautifully connecting with the high cross from the left side inside the box. the video can be seen below

The game was classed as a centralised friendly as Gabon as hosts of the 2017 African Nations Cup do not need to qualify, much like France for Euro 2016.

Ivory Coast, who are managed by Frenchman Michel Dussuyer, who has also coached Guinea and Benin, top their qualification group. The tournament will take place early next year and should Kodjia earn himself a place in the squad, then he would miss potentially a month of the Championship season.

Kodjia made his debut int he friendly versus Hungary in May, but is now making big strides into earning himself a place in the squad on a regular basis.

Last season was a very successful club campaign for Kodjia, whose 19 goals played a major part in helping the Robins survive instant relegation. Since signing from French side angers he has quickly become a permanent fixture in the starting eleven. Now he is making his mark on the international scene, he could start to get more interest on a global scale.
