Grimsby Town defender Josh Gowling has backed young team-mate Josh Venney to shine in the Football League according to the Grimsby Telegraph.
The news comes after the teenage midfielder penned a new one-year deal at Blundell Park earlier this week.
Gowling, who has played over 50 games for the Mariners since a 2015 switch from Kidderminster, told the Telegraph:
“He is young, hungry and can put his foot in – he also has great technical ability.
“Josh has got a great attitude. He works hard in the gym and socialises well with the other lads, so it’s great to see him get a chance.
“Ahead of next season, he needs to keep working hard throughout the summer.
“If he can put himself in the best position he can be, then I’m sure he will be in the gaffer’s thoughts when the friendlies come around.
“Because it’s not quite as physical, I think League Two will suit him better, too.”
Venney turned out seven times for the Mariners last season, five of those appearances coming from the substitute’s bench and he was also named in the matchday squad for the club’s FA Trophy Final defeat to FC Halifax Town at the end of the campaign.
