Leeds United – previous target hands in transfer request

Anthony Limbome, the young Belgian winger currently plying for Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, is a long-term transfer target much coveted by Leeds United – one who the Whites failed to land when their valuation came up short.

However, that disappointment aside, things could be looking up for the Yorkshire side’s chances after the youngster handed in a transfer request according to Dutch publication de Gelderlander via Sport Witness.

De Gelderlander’s writer Lex Lammers simply stated in a very brief round-up section in his article that: “Anthony Limbombe has announced a transfer request,” something that will put Leeds fans on alert.

Sports Witness add to the intrigue by stating in their reporting of the Limbombe transfer request that they “recently contacted” Limbombe’s agents Star Factory Football Management to ask whether Leeds United were “showing an interest” in the 21-year-old winger and they state that “he [the agent] confirmed a move to England is a possibility.”

Limbombe was seen as a vital cog in a NEC Nijmegen side that finished 10th in the Eredivisie this past season, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists over the 32 league appearances that he made, primarily as a left winger.

These seven goals come on the back of 14 goals and 10 assists in the 2014/15 Jupiler League season, a season where his output helped NEC to promotion with only 10 points dropped. In the 70 appearances across all levels of competition for NEC, Limbombe, who is a Belgian Under-19 international, has scored 23 goals and provided 18 assists – a return that is considered eye-catching by some.
