Retained List: Mansfield say goodbye to four

Adam Murray has now finalised his Mansfield Town retained list following weeks of activity regarding contract talks and offer to players. Eleven players were already under contract for next season, but at least three can be added to that number.

A total of four have been released by the club, whilst talks are still continuing with four more players, who have all been offered contract extensions to remain with the Stags.

Goalkeeper Scott Shearer, regular substitute Adi Yussuf and youngster Corbin Shires are the three that can be added to next seasons squad after the club took up options to extend their deals.

Four players have been offered new deals, and they are headlined by the experienced Matty Blair. The former York City and Fleetwood Town man appeared in most of their League Two games last season and Murray clearly feels he is a player which much more to offer. Midfielder Chris Clements started 32 of their league games and scored five goals from midfielder, he joins fellow midfielder Reggie Lambe, who also scored five goals, in being offered new terms. Ryan Tafazolli started all bar two of their 46 league games so the defender is clearly a key player. He too has been offered an extension.

Craig Westcarr is the biggest eye-catcher in terms of players released. He started over 20 league games and the experienced forward is once again searching for a new club. Chris Beardsley, another experienced striker, found it harder to achieve regular game time at Field Mill, and he joins Anthony Dwyer and Liam Marsden in moving on.
