Retained List: Club captain among 5 to exit Brighton

Chris Hughton signed a new long-term contract to remain as Brighton & Hove Albion manager recently and he has quickly stepped up his plans for next season as well. Their play-off heartache will remain for a while, but they have unveiled their retained list as they cull the squad.

A total of five players have been allowed to move on, whilst three players were offered new contracts, although two of those are cover goalkeepers. There will be some sad Seagulls fans to see a few of these players to leave.

Club captain Gordon Greer departs the Amex Stadium has been a key performer in the Brighton defence for a number of years now. Although he lost his place to Connor Goldson last season, he still provided vital cover. He played a major role to getting the club into this league in 2011, and participated in the several play-off campaigns to follow. The Scottish international will fancy his chances of finding another club pretty quickly.

Inigo Calderon is another long-serving player to move on. It won’t come as a great shock considering he struggled for game-time in the season that has just passed, but he will go down as a fondly remembered Brighton performer. The fans’ favourite will be missed by all at the Amex Stadium. He ends a six-year association with the Seagulls.

Bobby Zamora also ends his second spell having struggled with injuries last season. He made a great name for himself during his first spell with the club but found it hard to achieve a similar status on his return. He is another that will be remembered greatly by the Brighton faithful for all that he has done with the club.

Also moving on is Andrew Crofts and Adam Chicksen.

Consistent performer Bruno has signed a new contract, which will please all Seagulls fans. Hughton rates his very highly and despite being 36 in October, he still has a big role to play. Niki Maenpaa and Casper Ankergren have also been offered fresh terms.
