Fulham make defender loan deal permanent

After a productive loan spell, Fulham have confirmed the permanent signing of defender Michael Madl. He makes the move from Austrian Football Bundesliga side Sturm Graz on a two-year contract.

Since joining on loan in January, the 28-year-old made 13 appearances for the Craven Cottage club, before injury ruled him out of the last few matches of the season.

Speaking on his move to the London-based club, Madl couldn’t hide his delight at penning a permanent deal with the club and is already looking forward to a much-improved showing in the Championship next season,

“I’m delighted to have completed the permanent move to Fulham this morning and would like to thank the fans, players and staff at SK Sturm Graz for an amazing time there.

“I’m now continuing a new challenge in England with Fulham following on from my initial loan spell this year. I’ve enjoyed the past five months where the Fulham fans have made me feel so welcome from the very first day.

“I’m looking forward to a new exciting season in the Championship and I’m confident that I can be part of something special with the Club.”

In his 13 appearances, 12 of which came from the start, he helped himself to one goal, that coming in the victory over now relegated rivals Charlton Athletic.

Fulham becomes the third permanent club on Madl’s career, having started out his playing days at Wiener Neustadt before moving to Sturm Graz in July 2012.
