Northampton confirm Page move from Port Vale

Northampton Town have officially unveiled Port Vale manager Rob Page as their new manager on a three-year contract. A compensation package has been agreed between the two clubs, and Page becomes the successor to the now-Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

John Harbin also joins Page in making the move and becomes Performance Coach, whilst more additions that will form up the bulk of Page’s coaching staff will be announced in due course.

Page has been at the helm at Vale Park since September 2014 and this move resembles his second job in football management. He joins a club on the up, after the Cobblers won the League Two title in style last season.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas says that the club thought long and hard as to who should continue the good work and foundations left by Wilder, and that Page fits the bill perfectly,

“We have undertaken a professional, detailed and thorough selection process and we are pleased to have recruited an outstanding young manager like Rob.

“After an excellent playing career at all levels, Rob is an energetic, young, and ambitious manager, but someone who has also managed nearly 100 games in League 1.  He knows what the level is all about and that was important to us in our search.

“We were looking for a manager to come in and continue the good work that has been going on and Rob will be able to apply his League 1 experience to build on the foundations that have been laid here with this group of players.

“He is very highly regarded and I am looking forward to working with him to take Northampton Town Football Club forward as we prepare for an exciting year in League 1.”

Page will now be looking to make additions to his squad in order to ensure at the very least they avoid an immediate relegation back into League Two. Pre-season preparations are well under way, with his first game coming on the first day of the new season, which takes place on August 6th 2016.
