John Sheridan

Oldham warn clubs off pursuing Sheridan interest

Oldham Athletic have confirmed that there has been no approach from any club for manager John Sheridan and won’t entertain any offers for him anyway (Yorkshire Evening Post). Sheridan is the current favourite to be the next Leeds United manager.

Several other names have started to be linked to the vavacncy, including current Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores. Other less-known names like former Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini and current Crotone manager Ivan Juric, have also been touted.

Nevertheless, Oldham were adamant in that they were not interested in letting Sheridan leave the club for a second time. A brief statement read as follows,

“We haven’t received an approach and one wouldn’t be welcomed.”

The 51-year-old returned to Boundary Park for a second spell, after enjoying a brief spell at Newport County earlier this season. Earlier this week, a large surge in betting activity led to him being the short-priced favourite to succeed Steve Evans at Elland Road.

A board meeting led by owner Massimo Cellino is set to take place next Tuesday as they make prepaarations for next season. It is believed that Evans could finally be officially sacked on this day. On Monday, Evans continued to carry on his work as normal and was seen entering Thorp Arch after spending Sunday with his family in the Peterborough area. He was also spotted attending Peterborough United’s final game of the season, who are also searching for a new manager.

Cellino has been clear in that he says he hasn’t contacted Sheridan about any job and Oldham seem to have confirmed that today. If they were to appoint him, then they would be required to pay compensation.
