Goalkeeping ‘Beast’ pens new Mansfield contract

Brian Jensen, known as ‘The Beast’, has signed a new contract with League Two side Mansfield Town. The 40-year-old, who is the oldest player to play for the club, is understood to have penned a deal lasting a year.

His new contract begins from July 1st 2016, subject to Football League ratification. He spent long periods as second choice behind Scott Shearer, but also enjoyed a run in the side as well, ending the campaign on 25 starts.

Jensen is also the goalkeeper coach with the club as well, so he may have more of an eye on the coaching aspect of things this season considering he turns 41 next month. Nevertheless, he insists that there is ‘still life in the old dog’ on his Twitter page (below).

The veteran shotstopper is best known for the time he spent with Burnley, where he played one season for in the Premier League, in addition to nine more years in the second-tier of English football. Since leaving the Clarets, he has enjoyed seasons at Bury and Crawley Town, before linking up with the Stags at the start of this season.

Adam Murray is currently making preparations for next season and has been moulding together his squad. On the same day as Jensen agreeing to extend his stay, midfielder Jamie McGuire also signed a new contract, coming a week after youngster Jack Thomas extended his stay at the One Call Stadium.
