Ex-Leeds boss the new favourite for Blackburn job

Another day and we have another favourite to become the next manager at Championship club Blackburn Rovers. With the Hartlepool United chairman suggesting Craig Hignett won’t be leaving, it means another name has come into the reckoning; former Leeds and Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn.

He is now the short-priced favourite to succeed Paul Lambert will SkyBet. He has been out of work since leaving his role at Rotherham United earlier this season, before being replaced by Neil Warnock. Prior to that he had a long association with Leeds United as manager and academy director.

Following his dismissal in February, Redfearn’s name has mentioned linked with a few Football League vacancies over time. The sudden interest in him heading to Ewood Park however has to be of interest. The fact that he is out of work and unattached means that he is an ‘easy’ appointment if that is the want the Venky’s do indeed want to go.

Redfearn played for clubs such as Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, Lincoln City and Bolton Wanderers during a lengthy playing career. However it is his time at Leeds United which contained plenty of talking points and notable events. His strained relationship with owner Massimo Cellino and past dealings with former sporting director Nicola Salerno, who suspended his assistant Steve Thompson, are just two of the man standout moments on his Elland Road timeline.

He will certainly be eager to get back into management at some point, especially after his time with Rotherham ended much sooner than he expected. Ideally he would like a settled pre-season somewhere so he can get the chance to mould his own team. Maybe Blackburn could be the prefect place to achieve that. Rovers certainly need to appoint a new manager relatively quickly.
