League Two manager now favourite for Blackburn job

Hartlepool United manager Craig Hignett is now the favourite to become the next manager of Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Hignett seems to have come from nowhere, but is now 1/10 favourite with Sky Bet to be manager of the club on the first day of next season.

Former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell, who has not held a permanent manager position since 2012, had been 15/8 favourite to take over at Blackburn but he is now an outsider at 14/1.

Hignett, who made 53 league appearances for Blackburn between 2000 and 2003, became manager of Hartlepool United in February of this year.  The club were one place above the relegation zone at the time but finished the season in 16th place, with Hignett winning eight of his 20 games in charge.

Paul Lambert recently announced that he was taking advantage of a clause in his contract and leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season, despite being at the club for only six months.

There has been talk of a takeover at Blackburn this week, with local businessmen Ian Battersby and Ian Currie wanting a 51% stake in the club from current owners Venky’s.

With loan players returning to their parent clubs, several players out of contract this summer, and the prospect of no further investment from Venky’s, the future is looking very bleak for Blackburn Rovers.
