Retained List: New Crawley boss releases five

Crawley Town head coach Dermot Drummy was only appointed to the job late in April, so he hasn’t had too long to assess the squad he has at his disposal. Nevertheless, he has issued his retained list, with five being allowed to go.

It was also revealed that talks with the nine remaining out-of-contract players currently on the books are ‘continuing’ and that ‘announcements will be made in due course’.

The biggest name of those to leave is Roarie Deacon, who appeared in quite a number of Crawley Town matches this season. Out of Crawley’s 46 league games this season, he actually participated in 37 of those. He ended the campaign on five goals, which was only four shy of Rhys Murphy, who ended as top scorer despite leaving midway through the season.

The experienced Lee Barnard, a former Southampton and Southend United striker has been allowed to move on as well. Finding goals has been a particular challenge for him this season, so his departure won’t be felt too hard by the club.

Andy Bond started eleven games but has done enough to warrant earning an extension to his expired contract. Goalkeeper Callum Preston also leaves Checkatrade.com Stadium after appearing nine teams in league matches. Finally, Lyle Della-Verde moves on after failing to make a significant impact in the twelve times he played in League Two this season.

Liam players Jack Rose, Liam McAlinden, Charles Dunne, Frankie Sutherland and Josh Yorwerth all leave the club after their loans all concluded.

It is very much a case of watch this space with Crawley and some of their nine out-of-contract players are already on holiday. It may be a few weeks before any more announcements are made.
