Retained List: Luton say goodbye to long-serving duo

Luton Town have revealed the names on their retained list, with two long-serving players being told that they are surplus to requirements and have been released. In total, nine players have been released by the Kenilworth Road club.

In addition to that, three more individual have been placed on the transfer list by manager Nathan Jones, who goes into his first full season in charge next year.

The first high-profile departure from the Hatters is midfielder Jake Howells. He played 334 first-team matches for the club, making his debut at the age of 17. He played major roles in the promotion team of 2013/14. However this season he only started 14 times in League Two. Last summer he tried to leave the club and earlier this season he spent time out on loan at Yeovil Town.

In addition to Howells, Alex Lawless have been released from his contract after it expired. He started 21 League Two matches this season and departs after making just over 200 appearances for the club. Like Howells, he too played in the promotion winning team of 2013/14, whereas Lawless also played in the conference play-off final defeats in 2011 and 2012.

Veteran Paul Benson has left the club, along with defender Scott Griffiths. In addition to those, Isaac Galliford, Ryan Hall, Mark Onyemah, Luke Trotman and Curtley Williams are not a part of Jones’ plans for next season and will be free to sign for other clubs.

Zane Banton, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Craig King have all signed new contracts. Whilst Mark O’Brien, Magnus Okuonghae and Matthew Robinson have been placed on the transfer list with the League Two club.

Elliott Justham and Matt Robinson have also been released from their contracts, despite still having a year left to run of their respective deals. Asking meeting with manager Nathan Jones, it was agreed both would leave Kenilworth Road.
